Military Issues of the Civil War

This project invites you to consider one of many military aspects of the Civil War. Here are a few issues to consider:

Describe the impact of artillery during the Civil War.

• Compare Union and Confederate artillery.
• Discuss the use of artillery at a major battle, such as Gettysburg.
• Describe the different kinds of artillery weapons used.
• How did cavalry use artillery?

Describe Union or Confederate naval forces during the Civil War

• Discuss the Union blockade and its military or diplomatic implications
• Describe the Confederate use of raiders
• Discuss the Union “brown water navy”—the use of naval forces on the rivers to support infantry
• What's up with the Monitor?—now that it has been raised.

Describe military medicine during the Civil War.

Describe the use of railroads during the Civil War

Describe the use of the telegraph and other modern technologies during the Civil War.
